If my best friend, and Bills’ long snapper, Reid Ferguson is reading this please know this is not personal, it’s strictly business (unless Cane’s wants to sponsor me, then I will sell my soul to the chicken tender joint).

A Cane’s finally opened in Pittsburgh this year, and I was so excited to try it after hearing Mr. Ferguson rave about it week in and week out. Now, let’s all be clear, Raising Cane’s is fine, great if you are drunk, but it’s nothing to write home about. The unseasoned chicken and fries need a sauce to get it over the finish line, but the toast is a keeper though.
True knowers of the fast food chicken tender game (me) know that Layne’s is the original and is better, but that is a conversation for another day.
Not to mention the people of Buffalo are blessed with the best that chicken has to offer in wings, and Cane’s may be a bit of a disappointment (those tenders in Elmo’s cajun honey mustard though would be life-changing).
About a month ago, I was lucky enough to be blessed by the Midwest Gods and was treated to the delicacy that is Culver’s. This experience changed my life while also probably shortening it at the same time.
The fast-food burger discussion is a sham and made me question why folks are talking about In-N-Out vs. Five Guys when the true king comes with cheese curds.
For folks who have never had the honor, nor privilege to order a butter burger, I am going to need you to drop everything you are doing and head to your nearest Culver’s. Listen, I am no expert on the matter, so I’d love insight from the professionals, but that burger needs to come with a side of cheese curds and a concrete mixer to get the full experience.
It’s said that the American dream is dead or it’s not what it used to be. But that right there, a butter burger, is the new American dream. That is why I pull myself up by my bootstraps (terrible saying) so I can live another day. Another day closer to getting Culver’s.
If you are reading this and wondering there’s no way this place can be that good you are mistaken (unless I’ve gaslit myself so much since eating there). The food is great, the staff is so nice, and the prices are very affordable compared to the trend we’ve been seeing in burger prices.
I don’t want a mob to come after me for saying this, but Pittsburgh and Buffalo are honorary Midwest members. Everything about them both has hints of the Midwest charm and as a result, these two beautiful cities deserve and need a Culver’s to fully christen these cities into the Midwest.
Now, with my roadtrip rapidly approaching I want to have some of these regional favorite places. I want to have a butter burger, an In-N-Out double-double, whatever Whataburger does, and more. Let me know what places I should try.
