The Degenerate Delight: Monday, February 15th

BY: SOME GUY NAMED STEVE

Alright degenerates we are back and looking to have a much better week than last week. After witnessing another overtime loss and Bellarmine scoring 4 points in the final 9 minutes to somehow not cover after being up 15, I knew the luck was definitely not on our side. Last week was bad but it was also very unlucky with half of our losses coming by a single possession or losing in overtime. As infuriating as that was to witness, I know that the luck will eventually swing in our favor. With a smaller slate today for college basketball I decided to switch it up and sneak in an NBA play. Lets do this!

Overall Record: 9-15-1 (-8.4u)

Florida State (-1) vs Virginia

Our first game tonight is a battle between two ACC beats in arguably the only watchable game on the slate tonight. Virginia (15-3, 10-7-1 ATS) travels to Tallahassee to take on Florida State (11-3, 8-6 ATS). Florida State has been absolutely dominant at home with a record of 10-1, 7-4 ATS and comes into tonight having won 23 straight home games vs. ACC opponents. Their success comes from an explosive offense that is 15th overall in offensive efficiency and has scored a ridiculous 85.6ppg in home conference games this season. Tonight they square off against Virginia, who has one of the best defenses in all of college basketball but has struggled to contain ranked opponents this season. This year, Virginia has played three games vs. ranked opponents (Gonzaga, Clemson, VA Tech), and in those games, they have allowed 71 points a game and an opposing field goal percentage of 50.2 percent. With Florida State shooting 57.8 percent in conference play, I expect Virginia’s defense to struggle to contain them, which will lead to another Florida State home victory.

Eastern Kentucky (-7.5) at Tennessee Tech

The next game on today’s slate is a battle between Eastern Kentucky (16-5, 11-5-2 ATS) and Tennessee Tech (3-19, 10-11-1 ATS). EKU is the definition of a team that wins the games they should and loses the ones they are predicted to lose. In conference play this season, EKU is 6-0, 4-1-1 ATS against the Ohio Valley Conference’s bottom half. In those games, they have relied on their high powered offense (82.7ppg) to get out to big early leads and never look back. With Tennessee Tech having one of the worst defenses in all of college basketball (315th overall), I don’t see them being able to slow down the EKU offense, who will once again handle an inferior opponent.

Warriors (-9) vs Cavaliers

Our final game tonight is a battle in the NBA between the Golden State Warriors and the struggling Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavaliers have been atrocious the past few weeks, losing seven straight, and now face the Warriors after losing big last night to the Clippers. The Cavaliers currently have the worst record on the road at 3-13, 3-13 ATS with a point differential of -14.4ppg in those contests. To make matters worst for the Cavaliers, they are without their big man Andre Drummond for tonight’s game. Drummond would’ve given the Cavaliers a much needed advantage down low against a smaller Warriors team, but without him, they will need to rely on Jarrett Allen. For the Warriors, Stephen Curry is playing like an MVP again this season and in February alone is averaging an absurd 36.2ppg, 5.4rpg, 5.3apg. The number is significant, but I will take the Warriors and the scorching hot Stephen Curry to blow out the Cavaliers.
