On April 8, 2022, the Sabres signed Owen Power to a three-year, entry-level contract. The Sabres drafted Power first overall in the 2021 NHL Draft after finishing last in the NHL’s standings in the 2020-21 season. Power had been playing for the University of Michigan since the NHL began its season and was one of the major contributors to their success.

The highly anticipated signing came because Michigan lost in the Frozen Four Semifinals to Denver. In 33 games, Power scored three goals with 32 points, blocked 50 shots and earned a +27 plus-minus for the Wolverines this season. Power ranked third among NCAA defensemen in points-per-game at 0.97. The 6-foot-6-inch defenseman also contributed six assists in the three playoff games he played. Due to his stellar play, he was named to First Team All-Big Ten as he helped the Wolverines win the conference tournament title.
The Sabres announced that the 19-year-old will wear number 25 for the team. Other Sabres greats like Dave Andreychuk and Craig Ramsey also touted that number during their time with the club.
It’s official.
