NFL Power Poll Week One: Familiar Faces

NFL Football is BACK. And so is our NFL Power Poll. The Trainwreck Sports expert panel of 9 voters voted on the top NFL teams in the league heading into week one, not many surprises to start, but we all know the NFL season can change on a dime. Let’s lock in for week 1!

1. Philadelphia Eagles

The defending champs take the top spot. The Eagles led with 8 first-place votes. To be the man, you’ve got to beat the man. The Eagles still boast a top roster in the NFL and are primed for another Super Bowl run.

Next game: Thursday night opener against the Dallas Cowboys

2. Buffalo Bills

The Bills were the only other team to receive a first-place vote, which should surprise absolutely no one. We do love our Bills here at Trainwreck and the voters agree that the Bills will again be a top team in the NFL. Led by the MVP and an improved roster from last year, it’s hard to argue.

Next game: Sunday Night Football vs the Baltimore Ravens

3. Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens take the third spot setting up for a heavyweight bout with the Bills in week one. Lamar Jackson was first-team all pro last year and the roster is littered with players capable of doing it once again. This team has all the tools to be a Super Bowl contender. A huge test in week one awaits.

Next game: Sunday Night Football at the Buffalo Bills

4. Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs come up 4th in our rankings decidedly underneath Buffalo and Baltimore. Will this look silly by the end of the year? Perhaps. One voter even LEFT KANSAS CITY COMPLETELY OFF THE BALLOT. Talk about disrespect for the defending AFC champions. But we all know Patrick Mahomes and company will be in the mix in December/January.

Next game: Friday night in Brazil vs the Los Angeles Chargers on YOUTUBE

5. Detroit Lions

The Lions eke out the 5th spot over a gaggle of NFC teams to round out our poll, but appeared on every voters ballot. It seems that the departure of Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn has our panel trusting Detroit a bit less than usual, but they have an opportunity for a major statement in week one.

Next game: Sunday 4:25 at the Green Bay Packers

6. Washington Commanders

The Commanders take the 6th spot, only being left off 1 voters ballot. There’s a lot of hype surrounding Jayden Daniels in his second year. Can they replicate the success of last year? Teams know they are coming. There’s a lot of pressure in Washington to perform.

Next game: Sunday 1:00 at the New York Giants

7. Green Bay Packers

This is where the panel started to split on their opinions. The Packers only appeared on 5 of 9 ballots, but ranked as high as 4 for some voters. The Micah Parsons addition surely helped surge the optimism for Green Bay, but their success hinges on Jordan Love elevating his game. He’s 27, and both Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers won Super Bowls at that age. No pressure, Jordan.

Next game: Sunday 4:25 vs the Detroit Lions

8. Los Angeles Rams

This spot was all over the place for our voters. The Rams barely make the cut, as the NFC hierarchy seems to be a mystery to the panel. Matthew Stafford has been battling a back issue this offseason, but if he’s healthy, the Rams should be a force.

Next game: Sunday 4:25 vs the Houston Texans

Just missed

Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cincinnati Bengals, San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos
