NASCAR Cup Series Championship 4 Tale of the Tape

The final NASCAR National touring race of the season takes place Sunday Afternoon. The Cup Series will also crown their Series champion this weekend. Kyle Larson

The driver of the No. 5 who has had the comeback season. Last season lost his ride due to an off-track issue, but now he is in Hendrick Motorsports equipment. Larson has had the best season of his career and one for the history books for NASCAR. Nine wins on the year, including four in the playoffs. 19 top-fives and 25 top-10’s also to his credit just prove Larson is going to be tough to beat.

Chase Elliott

The defending champion is here to defend his crown still. Whether fans believe it is controversial he is here or not, the 9 team has made the NASCAR Championship 4. Elliott has had a little bit of a down season when comparing it to the one of his teammate in Larson. Two wins in his season, both on road courses (COTA and Road America). Add in 14 top fives and 20 top-10’s to that and Elliott has an outside chance of getting it done on Sunday.

Denny Hamlin

Making no friends on his way to the Championship 4 is the No. 11 of Denny Hamlin. Hamlin pointed his way in with his consistency throughout the year and survival at Martinsville. Hamlin’s two wins came in the playoffs winning at Darlington and Las Vegas. Along with his wins, he has 18 top-fives and 24 top-10’s. Hamlin is probably the one that fans do not want to win. Can the villain finally get it done and win in his fourth attempt in the NASCAR Championship 4?

Martin Truex Jr.

Here we have the underdog. Weird to say that about Martin Truex Jr. after he was the first driver to get to three wins, it is the truth as he barely skirted by to make the Championship 4. He made it through and now he returns to the track where he won in the Spring. One of his four wins was the Instacart 500 back in March. Truex Jr. has won a championship in the format back in 2017. Can he get it done again on Sunday?

Cup Series Championship Pick

Well, it comes down to this. This one is tough to pick because any one of these guys can lift the trophy in the end. Larson does not have the stats here and Elliott won’t go back to back. Truex doesn’t do well in the return to a track he won at in the Spring. Therefore, Denny Hamlin gets the job done for the first time in his career.
