Five songs that could be Jeff Skinner’s goal song next year

Let’s just be honest with each other, Jeff Skinner has killed it in his selections for his personal goal song since the team started doing it two years ago.

His first song was Miley Cyrus’ infamous Party in the U.S.A., while Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance with Somebody echoed through the KeyBank Center this past year.

These two songs I think played just as big a role in Skinner finding his scoring prowess as head coach Don Granato did. The arena was electric after a goal from #53, and the fans cared about him again.

There were some dark days during the Ralph Kruger era, and Jeff Skinner felt the brunt of that. Skinner found his mojo again, and I think his goal songs helped with that.

But that begs the question, how does he build on the past two season’s successes and great goal song choices?

My top 5 picks

  1. Style– Taylor Swift
  2. Hips Don’t Lie– Shakira
  3. Umbrella- Rihanna
  4. Material Girl- Madona
  5. Girls Just Want to Have Fun– Cyndi Lauper

Folks, we have a clear 1,1 pick with Style by Taylor Swift. Not only is this song an all-time classic, but it fits the incredible vibes that Skinner has curated over the past two years. This song just feels like an obvious pick for him.

I feel like Jeff and Taylor are star-crossed lovers, like look at the picture of him and Taylor together with her holding his jersey. It just feels right to me.

The other songs I have selected I wouldn’t necessarily be upset about, but I think I would be with Hips Don’t Lie still available to be used.

While I see a clear first pick, I also see an even more clear second pick for Skinner. Hips Don’t Lie by Shakira is an all-time classic and will 100% get KeyBank Center dancing. The vibes are immaculate here, and just again suits Skinner and who he is.

The other songs I have listed are great, yes, but I just don’t feel live up to Style and Hips Don’t Lie. They would do great in getting the arena going, but I just feel my first and second picks are just in another tier.

Skinner and I have very similar music tastes I believe, so I believe whatever he chooses to go with next year will be a favorite of mine.

But tell me Sabres fans, what do you want to see play in the KeyBank Center next year when Jeff Skinner scores?
