In Week 4 against New Orleans, sloppiness described the Bills’ offensive performance. Josh Allen threw his first interception of the year, took a rare three sacks, and the passing offense just felt out of sync. Even with those struggles, Buffalo scored 31 points.
Fast forward to Week 5, and those struggles continued. Buffalo turned the ball over three times, including a red zone interception, and scored a season-low 20 points. So how concerned should fans be about the Bills’ offense?
It’s still early, as it’s only Week 6, but there should be limited concern regarding the Buffalo offense. The Bills rank third in the league in yards per game, second in rushing yards per game, and third in points per game. According to Sumer Sports, Buffalo ranks second in expected points added and second in successful play rate percentage.
It should also be noted that the Bills’ offense struggled in Weeks 4-6 last year, averaging just 17.6 points per game and 290 yards of offense. After those three weeks, Buffalo scored 30+ points in 10 of their remaining 14 games.
With that said, the Bills do have some areas of struggle. The last two weeks, Buffalo has become impatient at times on offense, leading to trouble.

The Bills have also had their average depth of target drop over a full yard since last season, according to Sumer Sports. The inability to stretch the field at times can limit an offense. However, NFL defenses play in a two-high shell more than 60% of the time, according to Gridiron Heroics.

Editor’s note: Joe Brady and the Bills run a drive concept (drag followed by a 10-yard-in/dig). Allen has the dig open, but forces it late, resulting in a costly redzone interception.
If the Bills can avoid turning the ball over and stay patient, the Buffalo Bills’ offense will be just fine, regardless of fans’ opinions.
