Three Takeaways From Hard Knocks Episode One

Hard Knocks on HBO comes to Buffalo this year, and Bills Mafia couldn’t be more pumped.

In the first episode, there was a concentrated focus on the fans, Josh Allen, Dion Dawkins, and Tre’Davious White. The first episode was heartfelt and exciting, and it was a fun watch overall.

Seeing the more intimate parts of the players’ lives and training camp as a whole is an interesting perspective that we Bills fans wouldn’t get to see otherwise. Hard Knocks coming to Buffalo is super exciting, and I am pumped for the subsequent episodes to air.

Dion Dawkins’ Personality Shines

Dion Dawkins has even more personality than we initially thought. This episode began with Dion as he was leaving for St. John Fisher in Rochester. He was immediately shown with his wife and kids, as his kids helped him pick out his clothes to pack for training camp.

They also showed Dion with one of his new hobbies, drifting. He has his garage and track, with multiple drift cars, all of which are “Schnow”-graffitied. Dion took his kids out drifting individually, and they were having a great time.

I had no idea this was a hobby of Dion’s, and it was a special look into the daily life of one of the Mafia’s favorite players and personalities.

Team Chemistry is High

Team Chemistry this season seems to be at an all-time high. One example was the connection between Tre White and all the other corners. There are great moments between Tre and breakout defensive back Christian Benford and between Tre and new draftee Maxwell Hairston.

There were also many nice moments between Josh Allen and the offensive linemen, especially between Josh and Connor McGovern. The defense seems to be getting along very well and firing on all cylinders as a unit.

On the first day of full contact, they dominated in the trenches, stuffing run after run. Whether it was Josh Allen’s lessons on physics, teaching moments between the veterans and the new guys, or hugs between teammates, team chemistry seems to be high during this training camp.

Tre Day is Back

Tre’Davious White is back home, and his teammates and the fans greatly missed him. Tre White’s personality was on full display in this episode. My favorite moment from the episode was in Pittsford Farms Dairy, when Tre was welcomed back with open arms after two years of absence.

The fans and employees were excited to see him, and he passed out his patented “Tre Day Sunday” to the fans and his teammates. There were also some great moments between Tre and Max Hairston, the Bills’ first-round cornerback. Tre was drafted 8 years ago and has a lot of wisdom and knowledge to pass down to the new defensive rookies.

In the episode, Tre said that Max Hairston reminded him of himself when he first entered the league. Unfortunately, Max was injured on the first day of contact but avoided a serious injury. He will miss valuable reps and experience, but I trust that the medical staff, the coaching staff, and Tre himself will all help him prepare for the season.

Tre White was also seen getting extra work after a day at camp, doing wind sprints up a hill near the practice field. This moment shows that Tre is really taking this year seriously. Although he is getting up there in age and has an extensive injury history, he really wants to be in top shape for the upcoming season.
